CinemArena is an initiative with an experience of over 20 years funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation with the support of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation. It is a "mobile cinema" providing a set of outdoor events, organized in rural and urban areas, with screenings and debates. The aim is to ensure outreach and to carry out educational and information campaigns on various social issues in the most disadvantaged areas.
The editions focusing on the topic of migration, have been implemented since 2018 in Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, Nigeria, Senegal, The Gambia and Tunisia by the International Organization for Migration and aim specifically at helping potential migrants in making informed decisions by warning them about the real dangers of the journey, provide information on safe migration and social and economic alternatives, strengthening the entrepreneurial and working skills of potential migrants.
The most recent phase of the project which started on December 2022, is implemented in Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, Senegal, The Gambia and Tunisia and is raising-awareness more specifically on socio-economic opportunities and promoting empowerment of youth and vulnerable communities as alternatives for irregular migration.
